<h2>Getting Paid (For STUDENTS)</h2>Everything you need to know about getting paid from GIGs. Once you get accepted to your first GIG, you will be prompted to connect your banking information through the Stripe platform in order to get paid. <h2>⌚ How long does it take to get paid?</h2>Within your GIG Workspace, you will see when you are scheduled to be paid.&nbsp;<figure><img src="https://d3lrqzm3fer3ds.cloudfront.net/blog-media/1/1755883799485.png" alt="unnamed" title="unnamed"></figure>Granted you complete all mandatory tasks and submit all content, that is the day the payment will be released. It can take up to 3-4 more business days for the payment to be reflected on your account depending on your financial institution. <h2>📃 Will I need to pay taxes for working GIGs?</h2>For all tax information, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://homefromcollege.com/blog/how-it-works/tax-information">click here</a>. <h2>🌎 If I’m an international user can I still get paid?</h2>Yes, you can be an international and get paid, but you need to ensure Stripe, the payment platform, works in your country.&nbsp;Current supported countries include: United States, United Arab Emirates, Antigua and Barbuda, Albania, Armenia, Argentina, Austria, Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, Bulgaria, Bolivia, Botswana, Canada, Switzerland, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Egypt, Spain, Finland, France, United Kingdom, Greece, Hong Kong SAR China, Croatia, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Iceland, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Mexico, Nigeria, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Paraguay, Romania, Sweden, Singapore, Slovenia, Slovakia, Thailand, Trinidad &amp; Tobago, Uruguay.If your country is not supported by Stripe, unfortunately you will not be able to be paid and therefore cannot apply to GIGs.For additional questions please reach out to <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="mailto:gig@homefromcollege.com">gig@homefromcollege.com</a> or the HFC Bestie chat.This article is neither legal advice nor tax advice. My college roommate sold feet pics to help her pay her tuition. That experience—and thousands of similar stories from our community—inspired our first major marketing campaign: "Stop selling your stuff. Start selling your skills." <h2>Why We Built This Campaign</h2>When we started planning our debut campaign, we had two options:Option A: Safe messaging about "building your future" with stock photos of students smiling at laptops.Option B: Start with reality—acknowledge how Gen Z/college students actually make money, then show there's a better way.We chose reality.<h2>The Campaign</h2>Our campaign, fully designed and executed by Gen Zers, spotlights the scrappy, sometimes ridiculous ways students earn cash—sperm donations, selling clothes, feet pics, you name it—and then introduces what we think is a much better option: getting paid by brands you love for skills that actually matter.<figure><video src="https://d3lrqzm3fer3ds.cloudfront.net/temp-files/blog/140/1757437364418.mp4" alt="" title="TimesSquare" controls="true" controlslist="nodownload"></video></figure> The creative contrasts these two worlds: on one side, the quick-cash GIGs that make for funny stories but don't build your future. On the other side, Home From College—where your graphic design skills, social media expertise, and cultural insights become paid opportunities with real brands students actually care about. What we did:<ul><li>Times Square takeover – Because if you're going to make a statement, make it big</li><li>Wildpostings across NYC – Guerrilla-style messaging where students actually are</li><li>Pizzeria takeover near NYU – Free late-night pizza plus messaging where it matters most </li></ul>Creator collaboration – 100+ Gen Z creators and H\FC loyalists sharing their most absurd college money-making stories and why it's time for opportunities that actually count<h2>Why This Approach Matters</h2>We skipped the polished corporate messaging and started a real conversation about how students actually live and work. Gen Z is already redefining careers—prioritizing flexibility, authenticity, and values-driven opportunities. They don’t need permission to hustle; they need better platforms to channel it. Bottom line: Gen Z will always find ways to make money. Our job is to make sure that hustle builds careers, not just pays bills. What's the wildest way you made money in college? Let’s be real: social media is an essential part of life for most college students—especially our H\FC community. Whether you’re using it to stay connected with friends, create UGC for dope brands, or channeling your inner private investigator, it’s an unavoidable part of the digital age. But as much as social media can be fun and rewarding, it can also be a massive time-suck that can derail your academic performance and personal well-being if you’re not careful.So, how do you strike that perfect balance between staying engaged online while still crushing it in your studies, keeping up with extracurriculars, and having time for a social life? It’s all about managing your online presence strategically.Here’s how to manage your social media without letting it take over your college life:<h3>1️⃣ Set Clear Boundaries</h3>We all know how easy it is to fall into a doom scroll. One minute, you’re scrolling through TikTok, and the next thing you know, it’s been an hour. Setting boundaries is the first step to taking back control of your time.Set specific times for social media breaks during the day—like right after finishing a study session or before you head to bed. You could even use apps like <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://support.apple.com/en-us/108806">Screen Time</a> (for iPhone) or <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.wellbeing&amp;hl=en_US&amp;pli=1">Digital Wellbeing</a> (for Android) to track how much time you're spending on each platform and limit it to a reasonable amount. You’ll feel less guilty when you know you’ve earned your screen time!<h3>2️⃣ Use Social Media for Good</h3>Believe it or not, social media doesn’t have to be a waste of time. You can curate your feed to be a source of inspiration, learning, and motivation. Follow accounts that align with your academic interests, personal goals, and career aspirations. You’ll end up filling your feed with content that helps you grow rather than distracting you.Use platforms like LinkedIn to connect with professionals and organizations in your field. Follow Instagram accounts that share educational content or motivational quotes. Not only will it keep you informed, but you’ll also build a network that can help you land future internships or jobs.<h3>3️⃣Use Social Media to Build Your Portfolio – Get Paid to Work</h3>If you’re looking to get your social media fix while also making money, why not use your platform to land some flexible paid GIGS?Check out the<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://homefromcollege.com/gigs"> latest GIGs </a>for opportunities to work with the coolest brands that are looking for students (like you) to create content and manage their social media. By working on real campaigns, you can make content that showcases your creativity and strategic thinking, all while boosting your resume and portfolio. Whether it's curating posts, writing copy, or managing brand collaborations, you’ll gain valuable experience doing what you love (and making some extra $$).&nbsp;<h3>4️⃣ Focus on Purposeful Engagement</h3>You don’t have to be on every single platform. In fact, you probably shouldn’t be. Too many platforms = too much mental clutter. Instead of trying to keep up with everything, focus on platforms that actually serve a purpose for you—whether it’s LinkedIn for networking, Instagram for staying in touch with friends, or Reddit for finding advice and discussion on your interests.Pick one or two platforms where you feel most connected. Don’t feel the need to engage with every single new social platform that comes out. If you don’t have time for Twitter or Snapchat, it’s okay! Cut out the unnecessary distractions, and focus on what’s most important for you.<h3>5️⃣Don’t Let FOMO Take Over</h3>We’ve all experienced that FOMO (fear of missing out) , especially when you see your friends posting about their wild weekend or the parties on campus. But it’s important to remember that social media is often just a highlight reel and not a real indication of peoples day to day.&nbsp;Shift your focus to the things that truly matter to you. If you need a weekend to catch up on homework or take care of your mental health, that’s okay. The FOMO will pass, and you’ll feel way more accomplished after a productive weekend than if you spent it worrying about what everyone else was doing.<hr>Balancing social media with academic and personal priorities in college can be tricky, but it’s definitely manageable. By setting boundaries, using social media purposefully, and focusing on your real-life goals, you can keep your online presence in check without letting it take over your life. So, go ahead and scroll through that feed – just remember to keep it in balance with the other things that matter most.
