Content Marketing & Event Intern
What's one content area of opportunity you'd first implement after starting this position?
I would implement content areas for women who want to create programs and become entrepreneurs to help the younger generations of students. As someone who has witnessed and experienced educational inequality and inequity, I find that educational leadership and entrepreneurship is a growing fields, especially for marginalized communities. Firstly, I would implement strategic content strategies about uplifting young girls from marginalized or underfunded communities who would need extra help in the subject areas of literacy, mathematics, and science. This can be paired up with foundations and educational advocates on Tiktok, Instagram, and Facebook and will enable and create positive and uplifting discourse about providing opportunities for young girls and women who may not have the opportunity to do so. As someone with experience in fundraising and campaigning for donations, I will try to start a fashion-forward fund for young girls who are seeking jobs, and going to interviews or conferences. This can be a community-led effort on social media to get professional clothing and then have people create start-up businesses for cover shots, resume help, tutoring and many more aspects to empower and aid young women in education.

My name is Jennifer Castro and I am currently enrolled at The College of New Jersey in the Special Education Elementary Education English program seeking both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees. In my time at The College of New Jersey, I have been involved on campus in a variety of Student Organizations such as Women in Learning and Leadership, The College Mentoring Program, Student Ambassadors, Bonner Scholars, and a variety of mentoring programs. These leadership roles have enabled my passion for leadership, education, and community outreach. Not only, do these organizations provide me with a wonderful network of students, but I connect with staff on professional projects and inquiries. As a future educator, I have broadened my expertise in event planning, mentoring, community development, visual arts, and communication to then bring valuable skills to future companies. From my experience, I have engaged in programs such as The College Mentoring Union, Women in Learning and Leadership, Large event planning such as The Summer Leadership Institute for The Bonner Scholars Network, and Social Media campaigning and posting for the Bonner Scholars Network at The College of New Jersey.
Women In Leadership Learning is an education-based minor with gender, sexuality, and intersectional aspects. During my time as Programming Co-Chair, I manage and plan campus-wide events such as Take Back The Night, an event that showcases and empowers sexual assault victims. I plan and advertise for SlutWalk, a walk around campus to protest against rape culture, and many other events advocating for the initiatives of women's empowerment and equality of the program. I developed critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, problem-solving, and leadership skills during my time as Programming Co-Chair. I also developed Photoshop, digital marketing, and social media broadcasting skills during my time as Co-Chair as well.
I also have experience in social media campaigning for The BonnersforBetterness Instagram Account. Bonners for Betterness is a recurring social media campaign project for the Juvenile Justice Team connected to the Bonner Scholars Program. For this campaign, we facilitated three tabling events for clothing and hygiene product donations for students in Trenton Public Schools. Our campaign through social media and campus outreach successfully provided many hygiene product bags for Trenton Public School students and gently to new clothes for donation. On social media, I was tasked to create visual aids and supporting informational posts to bring awareness to topics such as juvenile incarceration and the school-to-prison pipeline. The social media account is still running and will be used during the next academic school year.
I also helped with Planning the Summer Leadership Institute for the Bonner Foundation. I was one of the Planning Committee Members for the 2022 Summer Leadership Institute at The College of New Jersey. I helped in the Logistics and creative aspects of the event and helped with Logistical aspects such as map planning, program planning, advertisement, welcoming bags, and many more aspects. I worked with The Bonner Foundation and TCNJ's Bonner staff to create pamphlets, provide and guide bonners on tours, and fun activities and social events for the summer experience.
I also create on-campus events for The College Mentoring Union. As Events Chair for The College Mentoring Union, I create campus-wide events and organize events for active members and students. the events follow the mission of educational equity and empowerment for all students. Events are targeted toward future educators interested in working with middle school-aged children. I have planned Professional development, de-stress events, and overall informational events for The College of New Jersey's campus community.
I have ample skills that can make me a perfect candidate for this job as I have experience in social media campaigning, posting and creating large-scale and small scale events for a college campus community.
