What strategies would you use to test different content angles on TikTok?

I test different angles by trying out a style, checking the views, and then changing it based on what the data says. I started by just filming in my room, then I tried using engaging clips from Pexels, and I noticed people stayed on the video much longer. I even tried those super short 6-second loops with just text, but they didn’t do that great, so I switched to filming myself talking directly to the camera with cinematic lighting. Now, I use a mix of everything, I use Pexels clips but I make my hooks way stronger by studying my old videos to see where people swiped away. This constant testing is exactly how I got my 266% retention on my most recent video.

How would you create a short video that grabs attention in the first 3 seconds?

I use a three layered hook system to stop the scroll in under 3 seconds. I start with a Visual Pattern Interrupt by using my face blurred, then I zoom in quickly with a swipe sound effect. This forces the viewer to freeze for a second while their brain tries to process the image. Then I use a counter intuitive claim that challenges what people believe, which creates a curiosity gap. For example, I’ve used hooks like "Watch this kid explain [Topic] in 15 seconds," which uses my age as a surprise factor. This strategy is why my newest video hit a 266% retention rate and I usually average 60-80% view duration. I reveal the "payoff" at the end so they stay for the whole loop.

Can you describe a time you used data to improve your social content performance?

I study my analytics to find out exactly where people swipe away. For example, I noticed my videos were doing better when I used the hook: “Watch this kid explain [Topic] in 15 seconds.” I realized my age was a pattern interrupt that made people curious. By doubling down on that "Short Form Value" and keeping my messages punchy, I grew my YouTube stay rate to 30-50% and my most recent video hit 1.2k views.
