How would you create content around a topic that some find sensitive?
As a medical student, my approach to sensitive content is built on empathy and evidence. I believe the goal should always be to educate and de-stigmatize, rather than to sensationalize.
My process involves three steps:
Fact-Checking: I ensure all claims are grounded in reliable sources to build trust and avoid misinformation.
Inclusive Tone: I use non-judgmental, person-first language to ensure the audience feels seen and respected, not targeted.
Safety First: I always include appropriate content warnings (TWs) and ‘signposting’ - providing clear links to support resources or helplines for anyone who might need further help.

Do you have experience with mental health or therapy? are you comfortable sharing your experience in a vague manner?
During my psychiatry placement at King's College Hospital, I worked closely with a patient who was initially withdrawn and hesitant to engage with the medical team. Over the course of the placement, I focused on building rapport through active listening and daily check-ins.
One specific instance involved sitting with this patient during a moment of high acute distress. By remaining calm and using de-escalation techniques I had learned, I was able to help them feel safe enough to verbalize their needs rather than acting out. Witnessing their progress - from being non-verbal to eventually engaging in group therapy - taught me the profound impact of patience and consistency in mental health support.
