What's one snack brand that is killing their social strategy? Why?
The Terra chip brand is definitely killing Root’s social strategy. First of all, Root is marketed as having multiple different tasty flavors of vegetables in a bag, such as Taro, tomato, and onion. Terra is a similar tasty brand in the sense that it also has different flavors of vegetables in chip form and also in different colors as well. Besides the taste differences, the prices for are relatively the same and the calories are also in the same range. However a main difference that I’m seeing is in the packaging. Root food’s chips have a more colorful chip bag display compared to Terra’s chip bags. Some may say that the more colorful the item the younger the consumer gets. Terra’s packaging is mostly black and fits the mold of a more mature person (not to say that mature people can’t enjoy the full rainbow spectrum). Nowadays society is becoming more minimalistic as opposed to maximalism. I believe that Root foods’ chips could benefit from a more minimalistic packaging and better advertising. I have never seen or thought to look for Root chips in any chip bag aisle but I do usually see Terra at big places like Walmart. So to conclude I think Root needs better social media advertising, better retail sellers, and a more minimalistic approach to their packaging.
