In a given week, your responsibilities range from updating financial models, to scheduling with external partners, to tracking inventory movement, to prepping decks for a marketing meeting. How do you prioritize and execute when everything is urgent?

I rely on a structured approach to prioritize and execute when everything feels urgent. First, I assess each task by urgency and impact, what will have the most significant consequence if delayed, and what aligns most closely with business goals or deadlines. For example, if a financial model is needed for an executive decision tomorrow, that takes precedence over a meeting deck due at the end of the week.

I also clarify expectations when needed. Sometimes, what seems urgent may not be, so I communicate with stakeholders to confirm deadlines and reprioritize if necessary. I keep a detailed to-do list, often broken down by day and hour, and I time-block deep work like modeling or analysis while slotting in quicker tasks like scheduling or tracking inventory around those.

Finally, I stay flexible. Priorities can shift fast, so I build in time buffers and re-evaluate throughout the day. This mix of structured planning, clear communication, and adaptability helps me stay focused and deliver high-quality work across different responsibilities.

Tell us about a time when maintaining accurate data was crucial to your role. How did you ensure the data stayed clean, up to date, and aligned across systems or teams?

During my summer internship, I was responsible for tracking warehouse associates' productivity and quality rates. This data played a crucial role in performance evaluations, so it needed to remain accurate, up-to-date, and aligned across teams. To ensure data integrity, I established a standardized data entry format, reducing errors and making it easier to analyze trends over time. I also performed frequent cross-checks with supervisors and team leads to verify that the recorded metrics matched actual performance. I updated the data at the end of each shift to keep it current, preventing delays and ensuring decisions were made based on the most recent information. Additionally, I communicated closely with HR and operations to ensure the metrics I tracked aligned with their evaluation criteria. These efforts helped ensure that associate reviews were fair, consistent, and based on reliable data, ultimately supporting better team accountability and performance management.

Walk us through a time when you built or managed a complex spreadsheet system to track operational or financial data.

For a Management Information Systems project, I built and managed a complex spreadsheet system to track influenza cases across the U.S. I gathered data from the CDC and local health departments, then organized it using multi-sheet Excel workbooks. I used formulas like SUMIFS, VLOOKUP, and pivot tables to analyze trends, regional hotspots, and vaccination impact. I also leveraged Tableau to create visual dashboards that highlighted key insights. The final dashboard included visualizations and insights that helped us present clear findings, and our work was recognized as one of the top projects in the class.
