Interview Questions
JOVA
Business Development Intern (Health Food Startup)

How do you usually keep track of tasks, follow-ups, or deadlines when things are moving fast?
When it gets busy, I keep everything organized with a mix of simple systems and digital tools. I typically maintain a to-do list in Notion or Google Sheets in order of priority and deadline. That way, I can take a quick look and see what needs to get done urgently. I utilize Google Calendar and email snooze functions heavily for follow-ups or reminders, so nothing falls through the cracks after outreach. I also make sure to allocate realistic time slots to my to-do list, considering other responsibilities. If things start to pile up, I like to do a quick reset at the end of the day for 10 minutes to re-prioritize my list, look over what I was able to achieve, and note what needs to be worked on tomorrow. It helps me stay calm and focused, even when I have a lot going on. I ensure to manage my stress and time through personal wellness activities, which help during the hectic day.

Tell us about a time you helped something run more smoothly, or solved a problem on your own.
In one of my previous roles, I assisted with coordinating outreach for a community education program. We had a master spreadsheet to track which schools we'd called, who'd called us back, and what follow-ups we needed to do. However, it got quite messy as people began missing deadlines or calling the same places. I took initiative and reconstructed the spreadsheet into a decent tracking system with filters, colour-coding, and drop-downs to monitor status and priority. I even included a basic tab for notes and reminders, so we weren't always using emails to keep up to date on tasks. I confirmed with my team members if this is okay to do, and once they approved of the idea, I distributed the update to the rest of the team. After we all began utilizing it, we prevented duplication of outreach and got more school responses that month. It was rewarding to take something disorganized and make it organized. I recognized the potential for better and took the initiative to improve my team project.

What excites you about this role and working with JOVA?
What I'm most excited about in this position is the opportunity to work closely with a growing and innovative brand like JOVA. I love the fact that it's not about sitting on the sidelines, it's rolling up your sleeves, creating systems, working through actual problems, and immediately seeing the effect. The fact that I'd have the opportunity to work directly with the founder and help influence what JOVA looks like in studios, stores, and retail spaces is really interesting.I'm also the kind of person who likes to get things structured and systematize procedures, so the CRM and account support aspect of this position really appeals to me. I've always wondered how food and wellness brands grow behind the scenes. Being an close part of JOVA's growth from the ground floor is something that I would really love to be a part of.
