How would you create engaging hooks for local recommendation videos?

I’d focus on hooks that feel real and instantly relatable. The first 1–2 seconds need to give people a reason to care, so I’d usually start with something like a problem, curiosity, or strong opinion. For example:

“I didn’t expect this place to be this good” OR

“If you’re looking for a spot like this, save this”

Then I’d quickly show the result (food, place, experience) so the hook pays off fast. For an app like NowYouKnow, I’d also tie the hook into trust and friends:

“This is where people around me are actually going” OR

“Found this through a friend’s list”

The goal is to make it feel like a real recommendation, not an ad.

What strategies do you use to grow a new social media account quickly?

I focus on testing and consistency first. When a new account starts, the goal is to figure out what people actually respond to, so I’d post often and try different hooks and styles to see what gets attention and holds viewers. I’d keep the content simple and repeatable so I can make a lot of it without overthinking. Then I’d pay attention to what performs best and make more of that instead of constantly changing direction. I’d also focus on content that’s easy to share, like quick recommendations, “top picks,” or things people would send to a friend. Over time, I’d refine based on retention, saves, and comments, and slowly build a consistent style that fits the platform and the product.
