How would you go about researching viral formats in a specific niche to make new viral ad formats for a specific brand?

I’d approach it like pattern mining first, creativity second.I’d start by studying the niche across TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts and collecting examples that are already performing well—not just brand ads, but organic creator content too. I’d look for repeated structures: hooks used in the first 2–3 seconds, pacing, caption style, audio trends, and the emotional triggers behind engagement (humor, relatability, shock, satisfaction, transformation).Next, I’d categorize what I’m seeing into “formats” rather than individual videos—things like POV storytelling, before/after reveals, blind tests, ranking lists, “day in my life,” or reaction-based content. Then I’d note what makes each format work specifically in that niche (for example, in beauty it might be transformation; in food it might be sensory reaction; in lifestyle it might be relatability + aesthetic). After that, I’d map those winning structures to the brand I’m working on and ask: how can this format naturally fit our product without feeling forced? That’s where adaptation happens—keeping the viral skeleton but swapping in brand-relevant moments, language, and use cases. Finally, I’d test multiple variations quickly, because virality isn’t predictable in isolation. I’d run A/B hooks, different openings, and different emotional angles, then double down on whichever version gets the strongest early retention and shares.
