Interview Questions
New Brew
Growth Marketing Intern (21+ years or older)

New Brew's brand involves tapping into nuanced cultural conversations. Can you describe a time when you navigated sensitive or complex topics in your creative work, and how did you ensure your approach was authentic and resonated appropriately?
During a university media project, we were tasked with creating a mock campaign centered on self-expression. I proposed that we spotlight the experiences of queer Black women—stories that are often underrepresented, especially in mainstream narratives. I took the lead in developing the concept and emphasized the importance of not turning our identities into a trend, but giving space for real voices. We decided to include quotes, visual mood boards, and storytelling formats that honored intersectionality without over-explaining or tokenizing. To ensure authenticity, I spoke to other queer Black women in my circle to hear their thoughts on how they’d want to be represented. I also read pieces from Black LGBTQ+ creators to inform the tone. The feedback we got was that the project felt both respectful and empowering, which meant a lot to me, because as a Black queer woman myself, I understand how often our stories are misrepresented or overlooked. I wanted to approach it with care and honesty, not just aesthetics or trends. It reminded me that when working with sensitive or complex topics, the best thing you can do is listen, research. Centering real voices, doing the research, and staying grounded in lived experience is how I make sure the storytelling stays intentional and human—something I’d absolutely bring to New Brew’s brand approach.

Tell us about a time you took initiative beyond your typical responsibilities to drive results. What motivated you, and what was the outcome? -- Are you 21 years or older?
For a school group project, we were developing a marketing strategy for a mock beverage brand. Our task was mainly to create a written report, but I suggested we go a step further by designing a basic mockup of an Instagram campaign to make our presentation more engaging and realistic. I took the lead in creating sample posts and mock ad captions using free design tools. It wasn’t required, but I thought it would help our group stand out and show that we understood digital marketing beyond just theory. My motivation came from genuinely wanting us to leave a strong impression and test myself creatively. Our lecturer was impressed and gave us the highest score in the class for going the extra mile. It also gave me more confidence in thinking creatively and voicing ideas. Yes, I am older than 21.

How would you approach developing a comprehensive digital marketing campaign for a unique product like New Brew's non-alcoholic beverages?
I would identify our ideal customer personas, then build a content strategy that highlights the functional benefits of New Brew’s beverages, using storytelling that connects emotionally, whether that’s through short videos or lifestyle imagery. Then I'd plan a multi-platform campaign focusing on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts for visual storytelling; paid ads for targeted reach; and email marketing for retention. I'd research influencers and micro-creators who align with our values to bring products to life. Finally, I’d use metrics like engagement rate, conversions, and sentiment analysis to evaluate what’s working, then optimize the campaign accordingly.
