What are the tools and / or advice that you learned as a teen that has supported you in your success?

I remember when I was younger I cared so fiercely about what people said to me, or about me. I let my value be placed in their words. Then one day, I was sitting down with my mentor in high school and discussing this very topic, and she turned to me and said a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, "no one can make you feel inferior without your consent." From there, I realized that people could call me unintelligent, sensitive, weak, etc. However, that should have zero emphasis on my worth, because I know who I am. At the end of the day words are just that... words. We are the ones who provide meaning to them.
