The reason why being 'terminally online' is seen more valuable than being a intellectual is due to the social value and connection that one can obtain through being on the internet all the time. Being on the internet excessively gives you access to understand contextual jokes and phenomena on particular social media platforms that the average non-addicted Internet user would not be able to understand. As well as easily being able to find a community that understands these jokes.
