Tell us about your haircare journey!
I’ve been natural for about eight years now. I wore braids for my first year of middle school, changing them every month and I realize that I wanted to be natural that summer after sixth grade. I cut my hair and have been natural ever since. Seventh grade was my trial and error era, I thought that when you don’t bother your hair, it would grow faster, and I was wrong. Since then, I’ve prioritized protective hairstyles but still getting cute hairstyles. I’ve only experience heat damage twice since being natural and really focus on length retention and healthy strands. I’ve created my own hair oil that I apply after moisturizing my hair every other day while wearing a wig and it’s minimized my breakage and shedding by a lot! My hair touched the very end of my neck when I first started, and now it is to the middle of my chest!! My goal is to grow it to my middle back or the smallest part of my waist!!

Can you share a previous experience where you successfully promoted a brand or product to a diverse audience?
Back in 2020 I started my own small skincare business where I made my own body, butters and whipped soaps. I kept my options open to considering the types of ingredients that I used to make my products, and the main thing being that some of my products did not contain coconut oil or any type of nut oil for those who had all allergies. This helped me gain more clientele for those who did have those allergies and keep the current ones that I did have, and I was able to sell more products to those who were concerned about ingredients in products that are in local stores.

How would you approach engaging with customers to drive traffic to in store events?
I always start a conversation with compliments to the customer and try to get to know them as an individual and find some similarities that we can discuss more into. As I introduce myself to them, I will talk about my role and ask if they have any familiarity to the current business I work with. If not, I inform them about the company, our goals, and products that we have. I’d then ask the customer their preference on how they like to have their hair styled or treated and based off their answer, I will direct them to one of our products that meets their qualifications!
