Interview Questions
Yaya Chang Art
Social Media Coordinator

How would you engage audiences for art?
To engage audiences for art, I would focus on understanding what resonates emotionally with them and how the art can fill a gap in their lives—whether that’s inspiration, self-expression, or belonging to a community. A great example of this is Dove’s ‘Real Beauty’ campaign, which didn’t just sell products but started a meaningful conversation about beauty standards. It aligned perfectly with the brand’s identity and built a strong emotional connection with its audience, leading to a huge boost in loyalty and sales. Similarly, with art, I’d create campaigns that highlight stories, emotions, and personal connections behind the pieces, rather than just promoting exhibitions. By addressing something that matters deeply to people—like inclusivity, identity, or cultural relevance—we can build a loyal audience that feels personally connected to the art, just like Dove connected with its audience on a deeper level.

Can you provide an example of a successful social media campaign you've managed in the past?
While I haven’t yet managed a professional campaign for a brand, I’ve created and promoted campaigns for my Interact Club. For our recruitment session, I planned and posted a series of engaging social media updates, using Instagram stories, reels, and shareable graphics to spread awareness about the NGO. I also encouraged current members to share the posts to reach more people organically. As a result, we received over 300 applicants—about four times more than the previous year and significantly more than other clubs in our area.

How do you stay updated with the latest social media trends and algorithm changes?
I stay updated on social media trends by following industry blogs (for example Buffer Blog), staying in touch and saving ideas and trends on actual platforms such as Instagram or Tiktok, as well as having had experience promoting events and concepts all throughout my highschool career, occupying the full time (for one year) PR/marketing agent role for organisations such as Interact, a Rotary International sponsored club.
