As mentioned in my previous experience, while searching for an online gig, someone recruited me to translate a few documents including a book. The payment wasn’t that good but I needed the experience and I was happy to learn. The person said they gave me the job because we were from the same country and I trusted them. Keep in mind they didn’t request any previous work and they didn’t interview me. They made the first payment and I was ecstatic. My first 20 bucks. Then, they sent me a book to translate from spanish to english and the author included his email. This was not that common since I thought working online meant to be in direct contact with the people who are paying, but I figured the person that hired me was a bridge between the employee and employer. I didn’t sign a NDA, which was weird because the book content was heavy and personal. I decided to look the name of the author via Facebook just to put a face to the name. Then, out of curiosity, I googled the name of the person that hired me and found out they were actually exposed for scamming people. There were too many signs and details and that saved me from being scammed as well. I sent an email to the author and explained the situation to them. My gut was right and I’m glad I paid attention to the signs.
