JOVA

Business Development Intern (Health Food Startup)

Tell us about a time you helped something run more smoothly, or solved a problem on your own.

At Marshalls, I noticed that the checkout line would often get backed up, especially during weekends. Customers were getting frustrated, and it was putting extra pressure on the cashiers. One day, I took the initiative to step in and help direct customers to open registers and guide them through the line more efficiently. I also started straightening up the impulse-buy area near the registers to keep it looking neat while customers waited. It helped reduce confusion, sped up the line, and made the whole checkout experience smoother. My manager appreciated that I saw the problem and acted on it without being asked.

How do you usually keep track of tasks, follow-ups, or deadlines when things are moving fast?

I rely on a mix of tools and habits. I use Google Calendar and Reminders to set deadlines and block off time for follow-ups, especially when juggling multiple priorities. For daily tasks, I keep a running checklist in Google Docs or Notion, it helps me see what’s done and what’s coming up. If I’m working in a shared system or CRM, I’m consistent about keeping notes and next steps clearly documented so nothing falls through the cracks. I’ve found that staying organized upfront actually helps me stay flexible when things change quickly.

What excites you about this role and working with JOVA?

What excites me most about this role is the opportunity to make a real impact at an early-stage brand that’s passionate about wellness and retail innovation. I’m drawn to hands-on, fast-paced environments where I can take ownership of tasks, learn quickly, and help build something from the ground up, and that’s exactly what JOVA offers. I’m especially interested in the behind-the-scenes systems that keep sales and operations running smoothly. Whether it’s maintaining a clean CRM, organizing sample shipments, or tracking reorder performance, I love the idea of supporting retail accounts in a way that’s both strategic and detail-oriented. I also really value the chance to work directly with the founder, because I know that kind of mentorship and exposure is rare and incredibly rewarding for growth. As someone who’s organized, curious, and deeply interested in food and consumer brands, I’m excited by the blend of creativity and structure this role requires. I’d love to be part of JOVA’s journey and contribute to its retail success.
