What role does journaling play in your life?

Journaling provides me with a tranquil time during which I can sit down with my thoughts. It aids me in articulating my emotions and processing my feelings. Writing down my daily goals and achievements grants me a sense of balance. Additionally, when I revisit past entries, it reminds me of my personal growth and the significant progress I have made toward my life goals.

Describe a time you took a leadership role in your community.

Two years ago, we were tasked with creating a concept paper that focused on Microbiology and Ecology. My groupmates and I named it "Likas-Kayang Pagsasaka," where we discussed the current challenges faced by our local farmers and proposed sustainable solutions. I interviewed a few local farmers and discovered that the excessive use of pesticides and other chemicals not only affected the farmers but also had repercussions on nearby fishermen. Chemicals were applied more than four times, mainly for dealing with pests, fertilization, and weed control. Despite protecting and promoting the plant's growth, these chemicals had a negative impact not only on soil quality but also on biodiversity. A fisherman informed me that the neighboring farm had contributed to the death of some fish in his pond. The chemicals absorbed by the soil from the pesticides made their way into fish ponds and other bodies of water through the irrigation system. This not only jeopardized the livelihoods of local people but also disrupted the area's biodiversity. With these insights, my team and I collaborated with the Municipal Agriculturist to propose sustainable solutions to the farmers. We developed informative materials and produced pamphlets and posters to be distributed among different farming communities in the region. I took on the role of communicating with the residing Agriculturist to plan out how we would be disseminating the materials. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, we did our best to execute the project effectively. I am incredibly proud of our work, and I look forward to participating in similar projects in the future. Overall, it was an eye-opening experience and a great opportunity for us to harness our skills and make a positive impact.
