How do you stay ahead of TikTok trends?

By creating them. I unfortunately scroll TikTok a bit too much so I always know the knew trends and brainrot sayings before my friends.

Over the summer the song Honor to Us All was trending because editors were using it. I made a video telling schools to use the song to edit their women's sports teams. Lo and behold within the next two weeks, not only had my own university posted a video to the trend, 100's of others did garnering millions of views amongst them.

What elements make a TikTok hook irresistible to Gen Z viewers?

Gen Z loves relatability with a touch of insanity. Most hooks that go viral have a very relatable undertone and meaning, but the actual words on the screen are a very dramatic explanation. Additionally, a sense of community. For example, a video was posted of the nets coming down at Top Golf, a man commented hoping it was fixed by his birthday party the next week. This comment kicked off a trend and sort of community around this man's birthday party. People started going to Top Golf in order to post Tiktok's referencing his birthday party. The Top Golf account even posted TikTok's of his party to cap off the saga. Gen Z just wants to feel like they belong. Whether it's relating to a random person on the internet, or finding an understanding of community in the comments section. It's a generation trying to rehabilitate human connection as technology continues to advance and pull people apart.
