Interview Questions
JOVA
Business Development Intern (Health Food Startup)

How do you usually keep track of tasks, follow-ups, or deadlines when things are moving fast?
When things are moving quickly, I rely on a combination of systems to stay organized and ahead of deadlines. I typically use a task management tool like Notion or Trello to break projects into actionable steps with clear due dates. For time-sensitive follow-ups or reminders, I often set up calendar alerts or Gmail nudges so nothing slips through the cracks—especially when juggling multiple accounts or outreach threads. I also like to batch similar tasks and check in regularly with a running priority list, so I’m always focused on what’s most urgent and impactful. In past roles, this approach helped me manage CRM updates, email sequences, and project deadlines without missing a beat—even when things were constantly changing. I’ve found that staying proactive and building in small check-ins for myself keeps everything on track, no matter how fast-paced the environment.

Tell us about a time you helped something run more smoothly, or solved a problem on your own.
At Genie AI, I was tasked with improving the email outreach process—but there was no existing system in place. I took initiative to build an automated workflow from scratch using Brevo, which allowed the team to send personalized emails and follow-ups without manual input. I started by mapping out the user journey and segmentation logic, then built the automation to trigger based on key actions. Along the way, I ran into several issues—some emails weren’t sending properly due to misconfigured triggers, and data wasn’t syncing correctly between Brevo and the lead source. Instead of waiting for someone else to fix it, I dug into the documentation, tested different versions, and identified where the workflow was breaking down. After several iterations and debugging sessions, I got the automation running smoothly. The result was a more efficient outreach process that saved hours of manual work each week and improved response rates. It was a great example of spotting a bottleneck, taking ownership, and creating a scalable solution that made things run more smoothly for the team.

What excites you about this role and working with JOVA?
I'm excited about this opportunity with JOVA because it offers the chance to make a meaningful impact at a fast-growing brand in the health and wellness space—an area I’m genuinely passionate about. What really drew me in was the hands-on nature of the role and the opportunity to work directly with the founder to drive retail growth. In my previous roles, I’ve worked extensively with CRM tools to manage lead pipelines, track communications, and streamline account follow-ups. For example, while working at Thematic, I helped maintain and organize CRM data to support outreach campaigns and ensure follow-ups didn’t fall through the cracks. That experience taught me how powerful a clean, well-maintained CRM can be for driving sales and maintaining strong relationships—something I’m excited to bring to this role. I’m highly organized, systems-oriented, and quick to learn new tools. Supporting sample shipments, managing reorder performance, and developing sales toolkits sounds like exactly the kind of challenge I’d enjoy. I'm eager to bring my skills to JOVA and grow alongside a team that’s passionate about wellness and making things run smoothly.
