Walk me through an automated email or DM flow you have built from scratch. What platform did you use and what did it trigger off of?

I built an automated email and DM flow using n8n combined with Klaviyo. The system was triggered by user actions rather than just incoming emails, because behavior-based triggers are far more effective. The primary trigger was a user event, like form submission, product page visit, or cart abandonment. Once triggered, the workflow captured user data such as name, email, intent, and activity. This data was then processed inside n8n, where I applied conditional logic to segment users based on their behavior and stage in the funnel. From there, the system triggered different actions. High-intent users, such as those who added items to cart, were pushed into an abandoned cart email sequence in Klaviyo. Low-intent users were nurtured through educational or trust-building emails. At the same time, I integrated a DM channel using tools like WhatsApp or chat APIs to send follow-ups for faster engagement. The key part was not just sending messages, but timing and personalization. Emails and DMs were triggered with delays based on user behavior, and the content adapted depending on whether the user was new, returning, or already engaged. This setup improved engagement because it moved away from generic campaigns and focused on real-time, behavior-driven communication. The system ensured that every user received relevant follow-ups instead of the same message sequence.

How would you use AI to improve a Shopify customer journey?

Yes, using AI to improve the customer journey on Shopify is not optional anymore. If you’re not doing it, you’re leaving performance on the table. Most stores still treat every visitor the same, which doesn’t make sense because people come in with different intentions, budgets, and levels of interest. AI helps you respond to that in real time instead of showing a fixed experience to everyone.A major improvement comes from how customers find products. Traditional setups rely on categories and basic filters, which is limited. AI can look at what a person is clicking, how long they stay, and what they ignore, then adjust what it shows next. That makes the browsing experience feel more relevant and reduces the chances of users leaving without finding anything useful.Customer interaction is another area where most stores fall short. A basic chatbot doesn’t do much beyond answering simple questions. An AI-driven assistant, on the other hand, can guide the customer, understand intent, and suggest products in a more natural way. Tools like Tidio or Gorgias can turn conversations into actual sales instead of just support.Cart abandonment is usually handled in a lazy way. Sending the same reminder to everyone doesn’t work well. AI allows you to adjust messages based on behavior. Someone visiting for the first time might need reassurance, while someone who has already bought before may respond better to urgency or a small incentive. That difference matters if you want to recover lost sales.Communication outside the store also needs to be smarter. Sending identical emails or messages to everyone reduces engagement over time. Platforms like Klaviyo use AI to personalize what people see, when they see it, and how it’s written. That leads to better response rates and more conversions. The real advantage shows up when you start using predictive insights. AI can help you identify which visitors are more likely to buy, which ones are about to drop off, and which products are gaining interest. That allows you to make decisions based on patterns instead of guessing. The main problem is not the lack of tools, it’s how they’re used. Adding random AI features won’t change much. What actually works is building a system where customer behavior feeds into AI, and AI drives specific actions like recommendations, messages, or follow-ups. Without that connection, most AI setups end up looking good on the surface but don’t improve results.
