How do you approach creating emotional resonance in video content?
As a half-Japanese, half-English individual living in Japan, I approach creating emotional resonance in video content by bridging cultural sensibilities from both backgrounds. In Japanese culture, subtlety and empathy are key—small gestures, pauses, and ambient sound can evoke strong emotional responses without overt drama. I often draw on this by focusing on visual silence, atmosphere, and emotionally restrained expressions that Japanese viewers can connect with intuitively. At the same time, my English heritage gives me an appreciation for more direct storytelling and expressive emotional cues. I use this to ensure the message doesn’t get lost in subtlety—building a clear emotional arc and using music or voice-over to guide the viewer’s feelings. By combining these two sensibilities—Japanese subtlety and British clarity—I aim to create content that feels emotionally honest and cross-culturally resonant.
