Situation: Selling mattresses and furniture on a high-volume showroom floor. Customers frequently hit decision fatigue from the massive inventory and would walk out to "think about it."Task: Kill the friction in the buying process and increase the overall closure rate.Action: I told management the standard floor tour was too bloated and suggested changing the pitch. Instead of generic feature dumping, I proposed opening with a pattern interrupt to disarm the buyer, followed by a strict three-bed trial limit to stop choice paralysis. I proved the concept on my own shifts first to show it actually worked.Result: It cut the bullshit out of the sales process. Customer engagement spiked, the average time per sale dropped, and closed deals went up. Management ultimately pushed the same tactic to the rest of the floor staff.
