Why are you passionate about reproductive rights and Hey Jane's mission?

I’m passionate about reproductive rights and Hey Jane’s mission because I believe everyone should have the right to make decisions about their own body without shame or judgment. As a college student and someone who saw firsthand how a lack of access to information can impact someone’s life, this issue feels personal to me. My sister had a baby at 15 and didn’t fully know what her options were, and that really shaped how I view the importance of accessible reproductive care. I’m also a big believer that sex shouldn’t be treated like a taboo only if you make it one. People deserve open, honest conversations about their health, and I admire how Hey Jane makes that possible in a safe and supportive way.

Can you describe a time when you had to promote a sensitive topic in a public setting? -- How would you approach a situation where an attendee is hesitant to take a condom?

Last semester, I helped table at a sexual health awareness event on campus where we were handing out free condoms and educational pamphlets. I knew the topic could make some people feel uncomfortable, so I made sure to keep my tone friendly and casual. When someone walked by looking hesitant, I didn’t push anything on them. Instead, I said something like, “Hey, we’re just here promoting safe sex and healthy choices. Feel free to take anything that’s helpful!” That gave them the option without pressure. If someone seemed unsure, I’d reassure them by saying things like, “No judgment at all. Everyone deserves access to resources, whether you need it now or just want to be prepared.” My goal was to create a respectful space where people could feel empowered, not embarrassed.
