Honestly, yes — if the translation was accurate and felt natural, that would be enough for me to switch. The biggest friction in cross-language messaging isn't the willingness, it's the effort.

Having to manually translate or code-switch mid-conversation slows everything down, and sometimes things get lost or misread entirely.

If an app could handle that automatically and keep the tone intact, it removes the barrier completely. For my family especially, where older relatives are more comfortable in Tagalog and I'm more natural in English, something like that would genuinely change how we communicate day to day!

One that always gets me is the word gigil. There's no direct English translation for it — it's that overwhelming urge you get when something is so cute you want to squeeze it.

My mum will send it in a message and I'll just stare at it trying to figure out how to respond in English because there's literally no equivalent. You can't translate it, you just have to know it.

Another one is when my mum texts me something in Tagalog that reads completely serious, but the tone is actually affectionate — and if you run it through Google Translate it comes out sounding weirdly aggressive. I've made the mistake of showing non-Filipino friends a translated version of a message from my mum and they were genuinely concerned....
