Tell us about a time you convinced someone to try something they thought they wouldn’t like (food, drink, activity, etc.). What was your strategy?

Everyone has seen the TikToks surrounding the different ways to peel pomegranates (iykyk). As I walked out of the kitchen one morning after successfully harvesting pomegranate seeds, I ran into my brother. He was inquisitive about the "small red pearls" and "Bugs eyes" that filled my bowl. He was hesitant to try one until I began to descibe and familiarize the eating experience. "Its like a gusher", "its juicy and crunchy", "its dark red but once you pop them the color is a beautiful pink". When you find something that you love and you want to share it with the picky-eaters and the nitpickers in your life; the best strategy is to focus less on the actual taste of the item and focus more on the physical experience of enjoying that item. If a brand's packaging and flavor descritions are thoughful, these elements pull their own weight. The largest barrier to overcome when convincing someone is to show that either the experience is not as scary as they may think OR much better than what they expect.

What are important considerations for you when reviewing a product?

By far, Attention to detail is the most important aspect when reviewing a service or product. It's easily known when a company does not take extra time and consideration towards improving the customer experience. For digital services I'll ask myself : Is there customer service available? Are all buttons clearly labeled? Is the interface appealing , colorful, and offer something of true value? For a physical product I will ask myself : How accessible is packaging? Is this an item of quality? Was the item presented in a way that is appealing?

What do you consider when purchasing from a new brand?

Authenticity: young consumers value authenticity and seek brands that align with their personal values and beliefs. They are attracted to brands that demonstrate transparency, social responsibility, and ethical practices. Gen Z consumers appreciate brands that engage in honest and meaningful conversation, without overstepping the bounds between business and individual. Proudly displaying the source of the materials and the factories in which goods are produced (in extreme detail) is a good step towards showing that your brand can be trusted. Young consumers are extremely privy to marketing jargon, so be sure to speak Inclusivity and Diversity:Many young consumers celebrate diversity and inclusivity. They seek brands that embrace and represent a wide range of cultures, body types, and identities. Brands that showcase inclusivity through their advertising campaigns/product offerings/ brand ambassadors will resonate. For example, Lack of Colour being an Australian brand presents the opportunity to uplift and showcase Aboriginal creators. Value for Money: Young consumers will appreciate quality and durable products. However, they are also price-conscious. Gen Z is not against looking for a “dupe”. Products in a higher price range must stand out in quality and must be seen as justifiable to the consumer. Gen Z consumers often compare prices and read reviews before making a purchase decision. Peer Recommendations and Influencer Endorsements: Gen Z relies on the opinions and recommendations of their peers and influencers.. Brands that leverage influencer partnerships and encourage user-generated content can establish trust and credibility. However, it is important to not become over-reliant on partnerships to generate buzz. If young consumers have too much incessant exposure to ads featuring your product, it can quickly become distasteful. It is important that sponsorships are chosen mindfully.
