What do you think should change with the current state of social media?
I believe social media needs greater transparency regarding editing, filtering, and changing one’s appearance in photos and videos. Social media is a fantastic tool to gain beauty, fashion, and lifestyle inspiration. However, consuming content that has been heavily edited or distorted is harmful for users' mental and physical health, as it creates unrealistic expectations of how one should look. With the addition of regulations requiring greater disclosure of if, and how, content has been edited, social media users can better understand the content they are interacting and become informed about what is “real.”
