Please share one feature that would help a resume builder gain traction in the market.

One aspect of resumes that doesn't get enough visibility is totaling the number of work hours an employee/intern/student has already obtained. Creating a feature that an employee can use to add up all the hours he/she/they have worked thus far, then having some sort of rating system, would indicate how advanced the applicant is in their career journey. As a student, I'm incredibly aware of how different one student can be from the next in terms of work experience, even if they go to the same university. For example, student A could have spent years working part-time while going to school and securing full-time summer internships, while student B may have chosen to participate in many clubs, serve as a student ambassador, or something else. They both have full resumes, but how can a hiring manager distinguish between the two with a quick glance? The time calculator (to be filled out by the applicant) 'grades' those experiences and can equate them to hours devoted to a regular job. (Ex: Student A has obtained over two years of full-time work, while Student B only obtained .5 years).

What gets you excited about working in the beauty industry?

I think the most exciting thing about the beauty industry right now is people's attitudes toward it—as a young woman, I've been fortunate enough to see the evolution of the industry from something required, to something desired. Instead of feeling pressured to wear makeup because it's expected, many women, myself included, now can enjoy doing so because it's a form of voluntary expression.

Share a time when you've been able to mobilize a group of people around a product, service, or cause you feel passionate about?

While I didn't feature this internship on my business card/resume, my first internship ever was as a public interest intern at PennEnvironment, a subsidiary of Environment America. The majority of my job was to call constituents across Pennsylvania and educate them on what environmental issues were affecting the state and their community. I worked as a mediator between constituents and their legislators—no easy role to play, I soon learned. Nonetheless, environmentalism has always been important to me, and I used that passion to mobilize not only whoever was on the other end of the phone (whether that be to write letters, make a call, join an event, or something else) but I mobilized state legislators, too.
