SDR for Head of Growth
What's a time when you failed at something but through grit and determination became successful at it?
After receiving a promotion from a counselor to a program area director at a summer camp, I was delighted, although learned quickly that I would have to share my time between the job and studying for an upcoming exam. I struggled to manage all the responsibilities within my approx 16 hour work days, all while dealing with external academic stress and finding time to study. There were times at the beginning of the summer I felt very overwhelmed, to the point where I questioned if I could remain in the position. Despite struggling with this and academic responsibilities outside of my job, I sat down and independently thought of strategies to manage my workload. I reached out to someone who had previously worked in my position. They gave me the advice of managing stock and my take of the camp budget through a spreadsheet. With the support of the community around me, I created engaging lesson plans that the kids loved, leading to 100% class enrolment. I also discussed appropriate studying schedules with my supervisor and delegated my responsibilities to other staff during my exam time. I made sure to have my priorities straight and give time to what mattered to me the most.
