When I was learning Italian, I had a really hard time not reverting to Spanish. Since the languages are so similar, it was really difficult for me to converse in Italian without throwing in some Spanish here and there.

I have conversational abilities in Spanish and have beginner to conversational abilities with Italian!

I would create community and excitement around language learning by hosting a summer abroad language event! I currently study at DePaul University's School of Music. My instrument is classical voice and right now all of the vocalist are auditioning for summer programs all over the world. Through this event my colleges and classmates will have the chance to jumpstart their language learning for the summer. As a vocalist, it is important to understand the basics of multiple different languages. In the classical world we mainly sing in Italian, French, and German. Having a resource like Howie can be tremendously useful. Howie can give my colleagues and I a fun and helpful language learning experience before we leave for our summer programs. This event could also be helpful for DePaul students all throughout campus. At DePaul we have study abroad opportunities all throughout the year. Spreading the word about Howie could help make any DePaul student's study abroad transition less stressful!
