At Spelman College, we have two vibrant traditions that unite our campus community and neighboring institutions during March Madness:Hump Wednesday: A weekly gathering where students from Spelman, Morehouse, Clark Atlanta, and Morris Brown come together to celebrate our rich cultural heritage. This event features live performances by artists, fostering a sense of unity and cultural appreciation among attendees.Market Friday: A lively vendors' market reminiscent of traditional barbecues, complete with a DJ and various campus attractions. During this time, events such as pageant reveals and Greek stepping performances take place, adding to the festive atmosphere and showcasing the diverse talents within our community.To further engage our community during March Madness, we could introduce themed editions of Hump Wednesday and Market Friday, encouraging attendees to represent the teams they're rooting for. This would add an extra layer of excitement and unity, allowing students to express their support for their favorite teams while celebrating our shared culture.Additionally, organizing a basketball game where registered student organizations (RSOs) compete against each other would foster friendly competition and school spirit. This event could serve as a highlight of our March Madness celebrations, bringing together students from various organizations to showcase their athleticism and teamwork.These traditions not only enhance the March Madness experience but also strengthen the bonds between our institutions and celebrate the vibrant culture of our HBCU community.
