What role does journaling play in your life?
As a singer songwriter, most of my lyric and concept ideas come from journaling. It allows me the space to creatively attempt to put words to my feelings. Often times, I'll read back through entries -- whether they are messy brain dumps, lists, prompts, or page-long "dear diary" - type segments -- and I'll find a word, phrase, or entire paragraph that clicks into a melody I already had sitting in my brain. It's a cathartic process, and I don't think I could write as vulnerably if I didn't journal and process my mental state separate from inside the walls of my mind.
I'm obsessed with the directions personal reflection can take you in relationships with not only others but yourself. I like to think there is no greater way of learning than wrestling, sitting with, and often times accepting the nooks and crannies of your mind. Awareness is empathy. And journaling is such an untapped tool for many to embody that empathy.
Needless to say -- I would absolutely love to work with Margot and my peers on this Journaling Journey (ha). As I'm continuing my search for a full-time job, I am constantly looking for ways to learn, grow, and contribute.
Thanks,
Emma
