What do you think should change with the current state of social media?
After watching "The Social Dilemma" on Netflix, I'm convinced that the way social media is designed is bad for human psychology. Social media is meant to be as overstimulating, distracting, inflammatory, and addictive as possible, relying on (often negative) emotions for views and spreading false or incomplete information as a side effect of clickbait, lack of fact-checking, and people's increasingly short attention spans (also due to social media). I can't help but be reminded of the brief scene in the movie Ready Player One where the villain, Nolan Sorrento, is pitching an upgrade to the Oasis in which his company, Innovative Online Industries (IOI), can sell up to 80% of a user's visual field in the form of ads before inducing seizures. While social media is not quite as extensive as the movie's virtual universe of the Oasis, I believe this short yet important scene is a warning of where the technology we use and depend on every day could be headed if we continue to exploit our fellow humans' mental health for profit. That being said, I do not believe that social media itself is inherently bad. I just believe it needs to be designed in an ethical way that keeps the truth and humanity's mental and physical health in mind. To truly create change on a societal level, psychologists, sociologists, scientists, and engineers must work together on this. If we can create a better social media for tomorrow, future generations will look back on the online spaces and behaviors of today and wonder what we were thinking.

What tech product/app do you think has a great UI and why?
As a newer Spotify user, I greatly appreciate the Spotify app UI. The dark mode with light text is easy on the eyes, the content layout in grids consistently utilizes screen space, and visual feedback from the buttons as you hover over and click them makes the app intuitive and easy to use.
