How do you engage your audience through social media content?

I engage my audience by creating content rooted in my own, first-hand experiences. Having travelled to around 20 countries this year, I share insights only from places I have genuinely explored, whether that’s a local restaurant I discovered through a conversation with residents or a cultural practice I experienced myself. This honesty helps build trust, as the audience knows the content reflects real experiences rather than curated trends. I also prioritise cultural sensitivity and local context. I aim to highlight how destinations are lived in by locals, adapting my content to reflect cultural norms, traditions, and everyday practices rather than presenting a one-size-fits-all narrative. This approach allows the content to feel respectful, informative, and grounded. Ultimately, I ensure each post provides clear value, offering practical tips, cultural insight, or a fresh perspective that enhances the audience’s own travel or food experiences.

What makes a travel or food recommendation feel authentic to you?

Having travelled to around 20 countries this year, an authentic travel or food recommendation, to me, is one that encourages genuine integration into the local culture. The most memorable experiences I’ve had came from engaging in everyday local life, participating in community activities, speaking with locals, and trying traditional food in places where residents actually eat, rather than simply visiting well-known hotspots. Authenticity comes from personal experience. A recommendation feels far more trustworthy when it is clear the person has actually been there, tried the food themselves, and understands the context behind it. This might mean suggesting a small family-run restaurant, a local market, or an activity that reflects how people in that place truly live, rather than repeating widely circulated suggestions. Equally important is approaching each destination without bias. Every location deserves a fair chance to be experienced on its own terms, rather than being measured against expectations or stereotypes. Recommendations that acknowledge both the highlights and the realities of a place feel honest and credible, and allow others to form their own meaningful connections with it.
