What makes UGC content effective on Instagram Reels and TikTok?

UGC works so well on Reels and TikTok because it doesn’t look like an ad. It feels like a friend giving you the inside scoop. Lemme give u a few big reasons why it hits: People see themselves in the content (“omg, that’s literally me”) instead of feeling sold to. Messy bun, natural lighting, phone camera vibes—those small imperfections make it feel real giving authenticity . Strong hooks The first 3 seconds matter most. If the opening is funny, dramatic, or super specific, people stay. Emotion + storytelling , Even a 15 second Reel works when it has a clear problem to solution to an amazing transformation arc. Quick cuts, trending audio, captions, memes, humor stuff that blends into the feed instead of standing out as a corporate ad. Social proof energy Feels like someone just tried it, loved it, and had to share, which makes it way more convincing than brand polished content.

How would you create a humorous yet authentic TikTok ad for a hormone wellness brand?

I’d start by leaning into something women instantly recognize from their cycle—like the random crying, the bloating, or the sudden rage at someone breathing too loudly. The humor comes from exaggerating it just enough so it feels funny but still relatable. And as a woman myself let me tell you oh my gosh people around me get sooo tried of my thrashing around during my cycle.

For example: Hook (first 3 seconds):: “Me in my luteal phase spiraling because my barista spelled my name wrong…” (Overdramatic crying, eyeliner smudged, holding a latte) Problem setup: Voiceover or text overlay: “Estrogen dominance = mood swings, bloating, emo spirals you didn’t sign up for.” Solution: Quick cut to you holding Not Today, Estrogen with calm music: “But this? Helps my body balance hormones so I can chill… and maybe not cry over coffee anymore.” Punchy ending: Show side-by-side “before vs after” vibes: dramatic meltdown vs calm, glowing, eating snacks peacefully. Overlay text: “Not Today, Estrogen. Balance over chaos.”

This keeps it light, funny, and totally “that’s me,” but also lands the product as the daily fix without sounding clinical or boring.
