In 2016, slime was quite the trend and almost everyone was talking about it. Trendy pictures and videos surfaced all over the internet, inspiring me to try making some myself. I remember thinking, "How hard could it possibly be to make slime? It's just glue and borax." Little did I know, it was much more complicated than just the 3 simple ingredients. I ventured around my house looking for what I needed. Liquid white glue, warm water, and borax. After pouring the glue into a container and dissolving the borax into the water without paying close attention to the measurements, my slime became hard as a rock and looked nothing like the ones I saw online. I was discouraged, but I didn't let that stop me. I was determined to make the best slime ever, even better than the ones I saw online. After lots of research and understanding why glue bonds together and solidifies when in contact with borax, I understood the proper measurements of glue, water, and borax needed. I slowly began to see progress in my work. I was inspired to start sharing my creations via Instagram. I created an account posting ASMR videos and connected with other people who were also fascinated by slime. I later learned that there were events and conventions where people would come together, set up vending booths, and sell their creations. I attended the "Marin Slime Sensation" event and had my own vending booth. The products that I sold have come a long way in comparison to the first slime I ever made. The slimes I sold were scented, colorful, and had unique textures. Some were smooth and soft, others had a thick texture, while the rest made crunchy sounds by adding foam balls. My vending booth was a huge hit, and almost all my products were sold by the end of the event. This was a memorable experience for me, as I would've never thought a viral trend on social media would lead me to be able to work as a vendor for an event. The process of perfecting my slimes was also a learning experience. I did not let my first failed attempt discourage me from moving forwards.
