Describe a time you took a leadership role in your community.

Earlier this year in the spring, I was approached with the opportunity to lead a team in managing the brand of Technica, a hackathon based at UMD that is for women, nonbinary, and other underrepresented genders in tech. I was nervous about the position since I had never held a leadership role to that caliber before, but I was excited to take on the challenge and further my marketing experience. I was then immersed into a world I quickly realized I knew little to nothing about. And what scared me most was that I had 10 people on my team looking up to me as a point of direction. Throughout the following seven months, I learned a tremendous amount about not only hackathons and the inclusive tech community, but also intangible skills on leading a team of people towards a goal. From beginning to end there was a noticeable difference in my time management, delegation of tasks, development of team synergy, team collaboration, and strategic thinking skills. We ended up nailing our goals and I came out much more confident as a leader.
