How do you hook viewers in the first 3 seconds of a retail video?

I hook viewers in the first three seconds by leading with a bold, honest statement that feels relatable and slightly unexpected. I often use hooks like, “This is what I grab when I want chocolate but don’t want to feel gross after,” or “One piece of chocolate can have 24 grams of sugar—thankfully, this isn’t one of them.” These types of openings stop the scroll without being misleading and immediately communicate value. From there, I transition quickly into the product, keeping the video fast-paced, visually appealing, and under 30 seconds to maintain attention. My goal is to make the content feel authentic and approachable, so it comes across as a genuine recommendation rather than an ad.

How would you create engaging retail content ?

I would create engaging retail content by making it personable, fun, and fast-paced. A strong hook in the first few seconds is the most important factor in getting viewers to stop scrolling and stay engaged. I’d keep videos concise—ideally under 30 seconds—to maintain attention while highlighting key product benefits in a clear, relatable way. By pairing quick visuals with an authentic, conversational tone, the content feels less like an ad and more like a recommendation, which drives higher engagement and trust.
