The dress code at my high school was incredibly inappropriate and girls at my school would consistently come up to me, as I was class president, and ask me to do something. Although I was scared to be rejected by the school board, I wrote a clear and concise essay and asked that the schools admin, including the principal and vice principals, listen to my essay and have an open discussion. I was quite intrigued when they agreed and we had a very civil conversation which actually ended by them changing the dress code to be less sexist and more gender neutral. This moment truly allowed me to step into the role as a leader and the outcome was more than I had even hoped!
