I do not have previous product development experience; however, my sister owns a successful beauty salon where she stocks many different beauty products from a variety of brands. During my time working as a marketing intern for her, I analyzed data of what are the most purchased products and advised her on which she should continue promoting and which she should cut. Additionally, I had the opportunity to curate different promotions and posts for her social media pages

What products do you think are disrupting beauty?

Products that include harsh chemicals are disrupting beauty. In today's society, younger generations are moving towards a more sustainable and healthy lifestyle. They are growing to be more conservative towards what they are putting in both their body and the environment. Still, many products in the beauty industry contain harsh chemicals that disrupt the endocrine such as formaldehyde, mercury, dibutyl, etc. Chemicals like these are found in some of the most well-known beauty brands like L'Oréal, Maybelline, and many more. Another issue could be non-sustainable packaging. According to the PDI of Business and Sustainability Index, about 91% of Gen Z say they want to buy from sustainable companies. In conclusion, many beauty brands must be conscious of the ingredients they are using and keep up with the needs and values of the consumer.
