What roles do you think sports plays in consumer behavior and affinity?

As consumers, we lean on reputable and trusted sources for recommendations. Sports play a tremendous role in consumer behavior and affinity because well-loved and respected franchises act as that reputable source for fans. The most recent example of successful affinity marketing through sports is the campaign to get people vaccinated. Athletes acted as effective and powerful spokespeople because, since their health and bodies are crucial to their career, having their faith in the vaccine appeased the concerns of many others. The influence sports have on consumers that I enjoy observing the most, though, is through fashion. The minute pregame outfits get photographed, I see people on social media trying to identify the source of the clothing. A number of small brands have grown exponentially because one player decided to wear that particular brand one day.
