Interview Questions
DOU
Product Tester for DOU Chinese Sauces

What do you usually look for in a good sauce or condiment?
When evaluating a sauce or condiment, I usually focus on several key aspects: Flavor Balance: The harmony of sweetness, saltiness, acidity, bitterness, and umami. I look for depth and complexity without any one element overpowering the others. Aroma: The fragrance is a big part of the tasting experience. A sauce should have an inviting, distinct smell that complements its intended dishes. Texture and Consistency: Thickness, smoothness, or viscosity affect how the sauce coats food or mixes into recipes. Appearance and Color: Visual appeal matters, especially for consumer products. Consistent color and clarity are indicators of quality. Versatility: I consider how well it works across different dishes—does it enhance, complement, or overwhelm flavors? Aftertaste and Finish: A great sauce leaves a pleasant, memorable finish rather than an unpleasant lingering flavor. Combining these factors allows me to give thorough, actionable feedback that can help refine the product for both taste and consumer satisfaction.

Which of our sauces are you most excited to try — Sriracha, Sesame Oil, or Snack Oil?
I’m particularly excited to try the Sriracha sauce because it offers a dynamic balance of heat, sweetness, and umami that can vary widely between brands. I enjoy analyzing not only the flavor profile but also the aroma, consistency, and how it interacts with different foods. That said, I’m equally curious about the Sesame Oil and Snack Oil because understanding their nuances in both cooking and direct tasting is key to providing actionable feedback. Ultimately, I’m most eager to start with Sriracha and explore how DOU has crafted a unique taste experience that sets it apart from competitors.
