Inner Journey: Mental Clarity

Campus Brand Ambassador

Inner Journey: Mental Clarity Profile Image

What are you involved with on campus that would be relevant to this position?

I am a college volleyball player, and our team is constantly using different practices to improve our mental strength. We have used different techniques and apps, but inner journey worked the best for us because of its variety.

I am the volleyball representative for our Student Athlete Advisory Committee, where all athletic teams are represented and we meet biweekly. Through this, I can set up meetings with ALL sports teams to use the app, create content, and engage in meaningful conversation.

I am the head coordinator of our leadership program of over 600 students. I send emails about reminders and tips to these high achieving students on how to maintain a balance and fun environment in their life while going through the stressors of college. This would be a great way to incorporate inner journey.

I am also a part of the psychology program here that is always looking for ways to reach campus to improve mental fitness across all students.

Have you ever struggled to communicate something important to someone close to you?

One example immediately comes to mind, and it is with my mom. I was a freshman in high school when we shut down for COVID. I was immensely struggling with my mental health. I am a social person, so being in isolation for so long was a challenge for me. I became short with my mom when she was undeserving of the attitude, and I struggled to communicate why I was so miserable. Finally, I broke. I told her everything I was feeling, and we decided it was time for me to see a therapist. This ended up being one of the best decisions we have ever made. That is where my journey in psychology and as mental health advocate started, and it is far from stopping any time soon.

Now my mom and I communicate about everything, and she is the one who teaches me what mental strength and fitness looks like.

Why are you interested in working with Inner Journey?

As a college athlete, physical fitness and mental fitness are both super important to me. Throughout the past three years as a college volleyball player, I have continued to learn how to improve my mental fitness, and Inner Journey has played a big role in that. I am in the process of getting a minor in psychology, and I plan to take neuroscience as a senior in preparation for grad school. By being an ambassador for inner journey, I hope to spread to importance of not just mental health, but mental fitness, to all Marietta sports teams and students.
