If a texting app could auto translate would it be enough for you to switch?

It depends on the execution. Auto-translation is powerful, but it requires high accuracy, low latency, and the ability to understand context, slang, and tone. If the app can deliver flawless translations without lagging, it could make me switch.

And while it is an incredibly valuable feature that solves a massive pain point for global communication, we can't forget that a messaging app ultimately relies on network effects.

For me to permanently switch, the app would also need enough adoption among my existing network so I actually have people to text, as well as seamless user interface and strong data privacy standards.

Can you share a funny or awkward translation moment you've experienced?

My Italian roommate was casually talking about the 'curva' (meaning a curve/bend in Italian). As someone who knows Balkan languages, where "kurva" is a pretty heavy profanity, I had to freeze and remind myself we were talking about a certain road, and not insults.
