What are your favorite aspects to look for when tasting wine?

When I taste wine, I focus on the elements that shape its overall story and help communicate it authentically to consumers. I pay close attention to the complexity of the aroma, because layered, expressive scents reveal a wine’s personality and guide how it can be positioned. I also look for balance—how acidity, tannin, sweetness, alcohol, and fruit work together—since a harmonious wine is typically more appealing to a wide range of customers. Texture and mouthfeel are just as important; whether a wine feels crisp, silky, or structured influences how I describe it and how it might be enjoyed. Its structural components, like acidity and tannin, give clues to style, food pairings, and aging potential, all of which help shape marketing messages. I also consider how the flavors develop from the first sip through the finish, because wines with evolution and length offer stronger points of distinction. Finally, I appreciate when a wine clearly expresses its sense of place, as this adds depth to storytelling and strengthens brand identity. Together, these aspects help me evaluate the wine and translate its character into compelling, consumer-focused communication.
