How would you engage a customer who is hesitant to try a new product?
To connect with a customer who is unsure about making a purchase, I would use genuine and relatable communication methods, including establishing trust between us, rather than trying to sell something. My method of doing this would be through conversationally acknowledging where the customer is at, understanding and addressing their worries, and sharing my personal story about the product.
When I share my story, I would explain how and why I personally love drinking Saint James Tea, how I incorporate it into my daily routine, and what aspect of it stood out the most to me during my initial experience. This way, my introduction would feel more like a recommendation from a friend than a sales pitch, especially in a college setting where students make buying decisions based on what their peers are doing.
The next thing I would do is educate the customer on the product through both transparent interaction and providing clear benefits of the product to them. Many customers are hesitant about purchasing because they are not aware of the benefits associated with the product, so I would provide them with relevant information (ingredients), flavor profiles, and the ways the product fits in with health and wellness values and lifestyle choices – all while not inundating them with an overwhelming amount of information.
Additionally, I would provide examples of other products that may be similar to them (familiar), and be open and transparent while answering their questions so as to create the feeling of having confidence in trying Saint James Tea.
Lastly, I want to offer low-pressure opportunities for customers to give Saint James Tea a chance to remove some of the risk that customers may feel when they want to experience Saint James Tea. Examples of this would be offering them a sample of the product, recommending an easy-to-drink or well-liked flavor to get them started, or suggesting they try Saint James Tea at one of the campus study sessions or casual social gatherings. By giving customers an experience with a positive standpoint, it may encourage them to continue trying Saint James Tea.
