As a Section Leader in the Marching Band at John Champe High School, I relied on performance observations and feedback data to lead the way in improving the group. I monitored attendance, time consistency and section performance during several weeks to find trends. My analysis of the data allowed me to suggest some changes to our practice framework, the more time we spend on the problematic area and redistribute roles depending on individual competencies. The outcome of this choice was some visible increases in efficiency as well as quality of performance. The lesson has made me understand the power of evidence-based reasoning in making decisions in a team and the way such decisions can translate into quantifiable outcomes.

My belief in the quality and accuracy of the data results in being a detail-oriented and well-organized person in any task I undertake. As an example, working as a student mentor with United Sound, I was to monitor the progress of students attentively and make the lesson plans relevant to the learning requirements of each person. In the same way, being a Section Leader in Marching Band, I always took notes during the practice to track the progress and maintain the consistency of the performance. I have also learned that being accurate creates trust and ensures that cooperation works more efficiently; hence, I never forget to proofread my work and promote the same attitude in my team.
