VoteMate

Campus Ambassador for VoteMate

VoteMate Profile Image

Are you comfortable remaining nonpartisan when you represent votemate?

I am very comfortable remaining nonpartisan when representing VoteMate, because my previous voter registration/mobilization tabling work with RU Voting was also via a nonpartisan and nonprofit program through a university department at the Eagleton Institute for Politics. I am also the Founding President of BridgeRutgers, the Rutgers Chapter of BridgeUSA, which strives to combat political polarization. Hence, I see the value of not playing party politics but instead emphasizing the principles of being politically engaged.

What excites you about being a campus ambassador for votemate?

Being a campus ambassador for VoteMate excites me because I am particularly passionate about civic education and engagement. My personal mantra is "if you want change, engage", and if this organization/platform/tool can aid in those efforts then I am all for it! I am also well suited for the role with my social media experience and current campus involvement, so I am happy to offer my services. Especially now more than ever, it is imperative for students to be equipped to participate politically at all levels (state, local, federal) and recognize the power they wield when they do.

How would you encourage students to sign up for VoteMate?

I would encourage students to sign up for VoteMate by spreading the word via social media, physical flyering promotion, et cetera. Included in the appeal of these efforts would be the intentional designing of promotional materials — such as relating to students as a peer, employing marketing tools that draw the attention of my age group of young voters. As an active student leader in the student government, political science, and Latine spheres at Rutgers-New Brunswick, I am fortunate enough to already have significant leverage and reach within my networks to amplify this organization's message and facilitate the voter education process for students. I have also previously tabled and facilitated for RU Voting on campus, so I am accustomed to voter registration & voter mobilization efforts.
