Interview Questions
JOVA
Business Development Intern (Health Food Startup)

How do you usually keep track of tasks, follow-ups, or deadlines when things are moving fast?
I rely heavily on a detailed calendar to stay on top of tasks, follow-ups, and deadlines — especially when things are moving quickly. I break down my week into time blocks for key priorities and set reminders for anything time-sensitive, like follow-up emails or shipment deadlines. I also make quick notes after meetings or interactions to log next steps, so nothing slips through the cracks. This system helps me stay focused, even when I’m juggling multiple responsibilities, and ensures I’m always one step ahead on what needs to happen next.

Tell us about a time you helped something run more smoothly, or solved a problem on your own.
Last summer, I founded and ran a landscaping business, and while the work itself was physical, the biggest challenge was operational. At first, I was juggling customer requests, job scheduling, supply runs, and invoicing all manually — which quickly became unsustainable. To solve this, I implemented a CRM software called Jobber, which centralized everything — from sending quotes and booking jobs to client messaging and invoicing. This change made a huge difference. It cut down admin time, reduced missed follow-ups, and made the whole client experience feel more professional. It also gave me better visibility into workflow and cash flow. That experience showed me how the right systems can make things run more smoothly — not just for me, but for the people I'm serving.

What excites you about this role and working with JOVA?
I'm excited about this role at JOVA because it combines three things I genuinely enjoy: systems, storytelling, and health-conscious brands. I love organizing chaos into structure — whether it’s maintaining a clean CRM, streamlining communications, or building tools that help teams move faster. The idea of working directly with the founder in a hands-on environment really appeals to me, especially because I’ve run my own small business and understand the scrappy, fast-paced energy that comes with growing a brand from the ground up. JOVA’s focus on wellness and its growing retail presence also stand out to me. I'm curious about how people discover and stay loyal to health food brands, and I'd be excited to contribute to that process — from managing buyer outreach to tracking reorder performance and refining sales materials. I see this as a chance to learn, build, and have a visible impact at a company whose values I connect with.
