How do you engage with strangers to promote a product?
When engaging strangers to promote a product, I focus on building genuine connections first rather than just pitching. My approach usually involves: Understanding their needs quickly: I listen and observe to figure out what problems or interests they have that the product could address. Starting with value, not the product: I highlight how the product can make their life easier or better instead of jumping straight into features. Being approachable and relatable: I use friendly, conversational language, and tailor my message to their context. Creating a memorable interaction: I try to leave them with something tangible—a quick demo, a helpful tip, or a way to engage further online. Following up naturally: If possible, I provide a way for them to stay connected, whether through social media, email, or an event invite. For example, as a Student Ambassador at SAA, I often interacted with alumni and donors I hadn’t met before. I’d start by asking about their connection to UMass, share stories or highlights about student initiatives, and then naturally introduce how they could get involved or support events. That combination of listening, connecting, and highlighting value helped me promote initiatives effectively.

Have you worked in event promotions before? Elaborate!
Yes! I have experience in event promotions through my role as a Student Ambassador in the Student Alumni Association (SAA) at UMass Amherst. In this position, I actively promoted and represented the university at a variety of high-profile events, including receptions at the Chancellor’s residence, donor recognition gatherings, and alumni networking initiatives. My responsibilities involved: Engaging attendees: I welcomed and interacted with alumni, donors, and distinguished guests, ensuring they felt valued and informed about SAA initiatives. Event coordination support: I helped organize networking sessions, senior send-offs, and community-building events, making sure logistics and communication ran smoothly. Promotion and outreach: I spread awareness about upcoming events, encouraged participation, and highlighted the impact of SAA’s work, which boosted attendance and engagement. Through this experience, I developed strong skills in communication, relationship-building, and strategic promotion, all while ensuring a positive and memorable experience for attendees.
