The story behind how “Stop selling your stuff. Start selling your skills.” went from an idea to 60 million impressions in under 1 month.
Julia Haber
When we launched our first campaign, we didn’t play it safe. We talked about feet pics. And sperm donors.
It started with one simple question: what if we told the real stories of how students actually make money—and then gave them something better?
Turns out, reality works.
One month later, Home From College achieved 3x growth—using the same platform we built for other brands to leverage the power of Gen Z.
Here’s what went down:
150+ creators sourced directly on H\FC
126% increase in website traffic
250+ pieces of earned content across TikTok + Instagram
2,350+ student stories shared (some hilarious, some unhinged, all real)
60+ million impressions across PR, social, and OOH efforts
Gen Z didn’t just see our campaign—they became it.
We didn’t need celebrities or corporate jargon. We needed our community.
From the Times Square video that stopped people mid-scroll to wild postings that turned NYC walls into conversation starters, every piece of this campaign was powered by the people it represented.
We saw creators take our message—stop selling your stuff, start selling your skills—and make it their own.
Because Gen Z doesn’t buy into polished messaging. They buy into truth.
Our campaign proved that when you meet students where they actually are—on TikTok, in pizza shops, in late-night group chats—you don’t just capture attention; you build trust.
This was never just about marketing. It was about rewriting the narrative around how young people work, earn, and build careers that matter.
We set out to start a conversation.
We ended up rewriting the playbook.
This is just the beginning.
The next chapter isn’t just about students — it’s about the brands that believe in them.
The past month proved that when brands open their doors to Gen Z talent, the results speak for themselves: authentic storytelling, cultural relevance, and impact that can’t be manufactured.
We’ve seen what happens when students use their real skills to drive brand conversations that actually resonate. Now, we’re inviting more partners to do the same—to move beyond traditional boring marketing campaigns and collaborate with the generation shaping what’s next.
Because the future of marketing isn’t about talking to Gen Z.
It’s about building with them.
